INTRODUCTION
It is now more crucial than ever for organisations to assist preserve a balance between socioeconomic needs and the environment. The most effective way to fulfil this goal is to build an effective Environmental Management System, or “EMS.”
An efficient EMS assists a company in meeting its environmental objectives by maintaining continuous control over its operations across the entire life cycle of its products or services. The premise is that increased control will improve the company’s environmental performance. The EMS does not impose a minimum degree of environmental performance instead, each company’s EMS is tailored to the nature of the company’s business and goals.

- The interrelationship between management responsibility, the context of the organization, environmental policy, environmental planning, implementation of policy, operational control, checking of performance, management review, and continual improvement
- Essential terminology that interprets and audit ISO 14001 requirements defined in ISO 14001
- The difference between compliance obligations and conformance with ISO 14001
- Plan and conduct an interview with top management
- Plan, conduct, report and follow up an audit of an environmental management system to establish conformity (or otherwise) with ISO 14001 and in accordance with ISO 19011
- Prepare an on-site audit plan that establishes effective audit trails across processes and between members of an audit team
- Prepare thoroughly for an audit and produce checklists (including process-based checklists)
